Biography

Rashid Arif Abdulrahman Osman was born in 1940 in the city of Duhok. He completed his post-secondary education in 1957 and was established as a teacher in the town of Sinjar, in the province of Mosul, in 1960. He was later dismissed from his job due to Kurdish activities and was established in Saylo, Mosul. He was dismissed again on July 27, 1963 and was imprisoned and tortured for four months. He was then sent to the city of Diwaniyah in Iraq and exiled. He was released in 1964. He passed away on March 16, 2015 due to illness in Sweden and was buried on March 23, 2015 in the city of Duhok. He was fluent in Kurdish, Arabic, Persian and Swedish.

On May 17, 1972, the Iraqi government attempted to assassinate him by planting three bombs at the Third Brigade Headquarters in Kirkuk, but he survived this attempt. In 1973, another assassination attempt was made by hired prisoners of the Kirkuk Intelligence Service, which was foiled by his arrest by the hired prisoners.

 

In 1973, he became the Head of the Organization Department at the Political School. In 1974, he became the Head of the Seventh Committee of the Kurdistan Democratic Party. After the defeat of the September Revolution in 1975, he emigrated to Iran and settled in the city of Karaj. In 1977, with the aim of cooperating with the temporary leadership of the Kurdistan Democratic Party and supervising the 150,000 refugees from Southern Kurdistan in Iran, he participated in the Karaj general meeting under the supervision of Idris Barzani (1944 - 1987).

 

In 1979, he was elected as a member of the Central Committee of the Kurdistan Democratic Party at the ninth congress of the KDP. He participated in the uprising in Southern Kurdistan and participated in the liberation of the city of Kirkuk with the Kurdistan Front forces on March 20, 1991. On March 24, 1991, he was appointed Governor of Kirkuk by the Kurdistan Front.

 

On August 16, 1996, for his service in the September Revolution and May Revolution and the uprising in Southern Kurdistan, on the 50th anniversary of the KDP's golden anniversary by President Masoud Barzani He has received the Barzani Medal of Honor.
