Officer and politician Sirwan Sabir Mustafa Sheikh Muhammad, known as Sirwan Barzani, joined the ranks of the Kurdistan Democratic Party in 1987 and the same year he joined the ranks of the Kurdistan Peshmerga forces. He was a delegate to the 11th congresses of the Kurdistan Democratic Party in 1993 and 12th in 1999, and was elected a member of the leadership council of the Kurdistan Democratic Party at the 13th congress in 2010.
Biography
Sirwan Barzani was born in Erbil in 1970 and comes from a family of Barzanesi sheikhs. He graduated from Zakho Military College in 1998. In 2015, he received an honorary doctorate in the field of national security from the Cambridge Academy of Science and Technology in the Arab Republic of Egypt. He is fluent in Kurdish, Arabic, Persian and English.

Sirwan Barzani emigrated to Iran with his family in 1975 after the defeat of the September Revolution and returned to Southern Kurdistan with his father in 1979 and was exiled to Baghdad. In 2014, he was appointed commander of the sixth military axis, Giwer-Makhmur, on the border of Erbil province, during the war against ISIS.
