Sulêman İsmail Cihangir was born in 1927 in the village of Botiya in the province of Duhok. He joined the ranks of the Kurdistan Democratic Party in 1959. In 1961, he became a cadre in the Duhok district committee in the first (1) position. In 1967, he received the rank of Serqoli of the Peshmerga of the Duhok District Committee. In 1975, after the defeat of the September Revolution, he returned to his village and was exiled by the Iraqi regime to the city of Diwaniye in southern Iraq. In 1977, he returned to the ranks of the revolution and served for a year in the Duhok district committee and then became the head of the Amêdiye District Committee.
In 1983, his son, Majid Suleiman, who was in charge of the secret organization Judi, was martyred. In September 1987, another son, Muhammad Salih Suleiman, who was in charge of the Amed District Council, was martyred in the battle of Kani Mas in Duhok province. In 1988, during the extensive Anfal operation and the chemical attack on the Behdinan district, the third son, Fakhri Suleiman, who was a Peshmerga member of the Duhok District Council, was arrested by the Iraqi regime with a group of others and later martyred. In the same year, Suleiman Ismail was deported with his family to the Cejnikan community near Behirk in Erbil province. In 1990, he returned to Duhok province. He played a prominent role in the uprising and rebellion of the people of Southern Kurdistan in 1991, especially in the uprising of the village of Malta in the province of Duhok. For this, he was again awarded the rank of cadre of the Duhok District Council in Division One (1). He was awarded the Barzani Medal by President Masoud Barzani at the thirteenth congress of the Kurdistan Democratic Party in 2010.
