Ismail Sadiq Betkari

Ismail Sadiq Betkari, known as (Ismail Betkari), was born in 1951 in the village of Betkar in the Amediya district. In 1988, during the extensive Anfal operation and the chemical attack on the Behdinan district, he went to Northern Kurdistan with a large number of Peshmerga and the people of the region and was later transferred to the refugee camp in the city of Mus. In 1992, he returned to Southern Kurdistan and became the Commander of the Peshmerga Battalion in the Barwari Bala area in the province of Duhok. He then assumed responsibility for the 3rd Battalion in the Kesnezan area of ​​the province of Erbil. In 1997, he became the Commander of the 18th Brigade in the 14th Army. In 1998, he became the Military Commander of the Zerevani Troops in Barwari Bala. In 2000, he became the Commander of the 7th Force in the 18th Army and in 2002, he became the Commander of the 6th Force in the 14th Army.

 

On August 14, 1998, while carrying a mine in the artillery field of the village of Betkar in the province of Duhok, the mine exploded, resulting in his loss of sight in his left eye and deafness. He participated in about 25 battles in his Peshmerga career and was wounded seven times.

 

In September 1986, two brothers, two nephews, and a son of Ismail Betkari were martyred by the bombing of Iraqi regime warplanes. His brother, İzet, was martyred in January of the same year. Sadiq Betkari, whose father was also a Peshmerga of the September Revolution, was poisoned in a refugee camp in the city of Muş in 1993.
