Biography

Sasan Awnî was born in 1970 in Erbil, the son of poet Osman Awnî. He received a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Salaheddin University - Erbil in 1993. In 2010, he received a master's degree in management and economics from the Lebanese-French University in Erbil. He is fluent in Kurdish, Arabic and English.

In 2010, he was elected as a member of the leadership council of the Kurdistan Democratic Party at its thirteenth congress and was the head of the board of public and professional organizations of the Kurdistan Democratic Party from 2011 to 2019. In 2019, he became the Minister of Municipality and Tourism in the ninth cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government.
