Omar Taha Mahmud was born in 1955 in the village of Shivê, in the Bala district of the Marghera district of Erbil province. He had two sons and three daughters and in 1975, after the defeat of the September Revolution, he emigrated to Iran and settled in the Zewa camp. Later, they were transferred to the city of Kerman, which is located in the center of Iran. In 1991, after the uprising of the people of Southern Kurdistan, his family returned and settled in the city of Soran.

In 1972, he joined the Peshmerga forces of Kurdistan and became a Peshmerga, continuing to serve in the Peshmerga until the defeat of the September Revolution. In 1979, after the start of the May Revolution He again contacts the Peshmerga forces of Kurdistan and, together with Commander Ali Xelil Sêlkî, becomes a Peshmerga, taking on the role of a party organization in addition to his Peshmerga duties.

He was martyred on November 26, 1983, in the city of Shino, Eastern Kurdistan.
