Martyr Salam Arif Ebdulla Mihemed was born in 1964 in the village of Girde Nazê in the Sharezur plain, in the Xurmal district. He grew up in a village and was engaged in farming. He was a middle-school student and in 1981 he contacted the secret wing of Martyr Ekrem Heme Ali, who was affiliated with the secret organization of the Halabja District Committee of the Kurdistan Democratic Party's Fourth Division, at which time Martyr Ekrem Heme Ali became a cadre of the Halabja District Committee organization.
Martyr Salam Arif took up arms in 1981 and became a Peshmerga in the Balantaran organization under the responsibility of Mam Wali Haji Arif, who was affiliated with the Halabja District Council. On the morning of November 1, 1983, Salam Arif and Mam Wali Haji Arif went to the city of Sayyid Sadiq to carry out a partisan operation. On their way back, they were ambushed by soldiers and Ba'ath regime forces at the Sayyid Sadiq checkpoint and faced an enemy force and defended for about six hours. However, due to the arrival of reinforcements from the Ba'ath regime forces and soldiers, Salam Arif was martyred and Mam Wali Haji Arif escaped the ambush with injuries.
