Martyr Osman Ismail Mahmud, was born in 1937 in the village of Melekan, near the town of Xelifan in Erbil province. He lived and worked as a farmer and became a housewife.
In 1961, he became involved in the September Revolution and was part of the Balek force that was then Hamid Effendi He became its leader, became a Peshmerga and participated in the battles of Mount Zozik and Hesen Beg and the battles of Geru Omar Axa and Sertiz and Hindiren. He was martyred in 1974 near the town of Diyana due to shelling by the Ba'ath regime.
