1975 was a dark year in the history of Kurdistan, for the setback not only befell the revolution but also dashed the hopes for liberation. The defeat permeated the battle trenches and the hearts and minds of all Kurds. No glimmer of hope remained to inspire optimism. Thousands of Peshmerga loyal to the revolution were plunged into despair, pessimism, and anguish.[1],
This situation lasted only one year, when the revolutionary leadership reorganized in mid-1976 and once again sounded the alarm for another armed revolution against the enemies who had caused the setback. September Revolution[2] With an international plan, hope was rekindled for the Peshmerga fighters, whose activities increased in various parts of southern Kurdistan. Indeed, the Peshmerga have recorded numerous battles and epics throughout history. Gulan Revolution In many areas of Kurdistan, they were able to launch powerful attacks on sites, camps, and institutions that were within range of their weapons.
One of the great and historic battles recorded by the Peshmerga forces is the battle of Kani Seif and Chomers, Mount Qocha, on the road between Said Sadiq and Penjwen on October 20, 1980. A Peshmerga force, armed with light weapons, confronted a force of the Iraqi army, heavily armed with both light and heavy weapons. In addition to the forces that confronted the Peshmerga in the battle, the Iraqi government airdropped a large number of other forces into the area by helicopter to support its troops on the ground. However, this did not frighten the Peshmerga, nor did it affect their heroic morale. Rather, they continued fighting until they were able to inflict a strong and effective blow on the enemy forces. The outcome of the battle was the killing of a large number of Iraqi army soldiers and the wounding of others, and the capture of an officer with the rank of pilot, named Ahmed Ismail Al-Aqili, by the Peshmerga forces.[3].
But what is regrettable and shameful in the face of the struggle and sacrifice for a sacred cause is the inappropriate and disorganized stance within the revolution. A force affiliated with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) suddenly appeared in the Kani Manga area and attacked the Peshmerga forces from the rear. After a fierce and bloody battle, two Peshmerga fighters, Muhammad Wardawla and Azad Sheikh Qadir, were martyred.[4].
