Basara is a Kurdish village in Khdrani district of Dukan district located on the slopes of Mount Kosrat.[1]The presence of an Iraqi army regiment in the area had a negative impact on the livelihoods of the villagers and residents of the area. They were also a major obstacle to the revolution and the movement of the Peshmerga The Peshmerga activities were carried out due to the confusion in the ranks of the army and government forces. In many different parts of Kurdistan, groups of Peshmerga forces were fighting against the government armed forces daily, causing heavy casualties.[2]).
One of the Peshmerga activities is the Battle of Basara, which took place on the night of 27/28 July 1987, when a Peshmerga force belonging to the third and fourth branches of the Kurdistan Democratic Party launched a major attack on Basara Battalion They carried out a well-planned and well-prepared attack and were able to capture and defeat the regiment in a short time. In the end, the government forces suffered heavy losses, killing 152 soldiers and taking 70 others prisoner Ammunition, equipment and military equipment fell into the hands of the Peshmerga forces.[3]).
