Nechirvan Idris Mustafa Mohammed Barzani, a legislator also known as Nechirvan Barzani, was elected to be a member on the Kurdistan Democratic Party's (KDP) Central Committee and Political Bureau in 1989 at the 10th Congress, 1993, and 12th Congress. He participated part in the Kurdistan Uprising in 1991. He was once more elected to the Political Bureau and Central Committee in 1999. Furthermore, He was appointed for the position as the Kurdistan Democratic Party's (KDP) vice president at both the 13th Congress (2010) and the 14th Congress (2022). After that, On September 16, 1996, he was appointed Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in the third cabinet. He served as the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in the fourth (1999), fifth (2006), seventh (2012) and eighth (2014) cabinets. Additionally, He was elected President of the Kurdistan Region on May 28, 2018.
Biography
Nechirvan Idris Mustafa Barzani was born in 1966 in Erbil. He is a descendant of General Mustafa Barzani (1903-1979), the leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP). He is the son of Idris Barzani (1944-1987). In 1975, after the collapse of the September Revolution, he and his family moved to Iran as refugees. He holds a bachelor's degree in political science from Tehran University. He is fluent in Kurdish, Persian, English and Arabic.

After the passing of his father, Idris Barzani (1944–1987), Nechirvan Barzani was elected to the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) Central Committee in 1989. At the first Central Committee meeting, he was elected to be a part of the Political Bureau. He participated part in the Kurdistan Uprising in 1991. He attended the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) conference for the union of (Socialist, Gal, Pasok) which was held in Erbil on August 20, 1992. Moreover, on September 26, 1996, he became Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in the third cabinet.
In 1999, he was elected as a member of the Central Committee of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) at the 12th Congress. He served as the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in the fourth (1999), fifth (2006), seventh (2012) and eighth (2014) cabinets.
Furthermore, in 2010, he was elected as the vice president of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) at the 13th congress of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP). In 2022, he was elected vice president of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) at the fourteenth congress.
In 2014, after the Iraqi government cut the Kurdistan Region's budget, Nechirvan ordered the export of crude oil from Southern Kurdistan to the world market.
In response to the Kurdistan Region's vote for independence, the genocide attack on the Kurdistan Region, and the attempt to destroy this region, he was welcomed by French President Emmanuel Macron at the Elysee Palace in Paris on December 2, 2017. At that time, he reaffirmed France's support for the Kurdistan Region.
On December 3, 2018, he was elected as the candidate of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) Leadership Council for the post of President of the Kurdistan Region. Furthermore, he was elected President of the Kurdistan Region on May 28, 2019, by members of the Kurdistan Parliament. Moreover, in 2022, he was elected vice president of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) at the fourteenth congress.
