Establishment decision and objectives
The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), initially known as the Iraqi Kurdish Democratic Party as stated in the National Covenant of the First Congress, was formed in the heart of Kurdish society with the aim of establishing a democratic federal state after a number of meeting in the winter of 1946 in Mahabad city the capital Democratic Republic of Kurdistan by the leadership of Mullah Mustafa Barzani, and all members of the Freedom Committee and a group of Iraqi Kurdistan fighters who had moved to East Kurdistan after the collapse of the Second Barzan Revolution, later this force became the main army constituent of the Democratic Republic of Kurdistan in Mahabad, for the purpose of organizing and unifying all the classes and constituents of Kurdistan Organizations and political forces in Iraqi Kurdistan and unifying positions to achieve the legitimate goals of the Kurdish people, the party was established and continues the struggle with these decisions and goals.

Since its establishment on August 16, 1946, the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) has held fourteen congresses, three conferences and several meetings according to the regional situation and as decided in the program and internal policy:

The president
The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) has been led by two great Kurdish leaders since 1946, who are regarded by Kurdish freedom fighters and supporters as two leaders and symbols of Kurdistan's freedom and independence.

Armed revolution
The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) to make the Kurds reach their rightful goals beside political and civil struggle thought of armed struggle as a right path. The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) has led two armed revolutions in South Kurdistan since its establishment.
