In 1968, he assumed the position of platoon commander in the Fourth Company of the Sixth Regiment within the Khabat Forces. In 1972, he became an official in the military section of the Sixth Regiment (BMO) within the Khabat Forces. He did not leave the ranks of the Peshmerga after the September setback, but continued the struggle with his Peshmerga comrades in the Tagouzi Company. He became the company commander in the Tagouzi Regiment in 1978, when Qadir Hama Saleh was the regiment commander. In 1982, he became the regiment commander of the Sirwan Forces of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, and Jalal Lawrani was the commander of the forces.

On September 10, 1982, when Aziz Tawfiq Abdul Qadir and a detachment of his Peshmerga comrades were returning from a combat operation inside the city of Halabja, they were besieged in the village of Gorga Chia in the Tagozzi area of ​​Halabja Governorate by a large mercenary force of Jash and soldiers of the Ba'athist regime. The Peshmerga resisted them for several hours, but due to the overwhelming force of the soldiers and Jash, Aziz Tawfiq Abdul Qadir, his Peshmerga comrade, and his nephew (Khaled Azm Tawfiq) were arrested after being wounded.
