Mohammed Faraj Shawis was born in 1963 in the village of Nawa, which belongs to the Khurmal district in Halabja Governorate. He was a villager, completed the primary stage, and was forcibly displaced by the Baathist regime to the district of Sayyid Sadiq, and opened a sweets shop inside the Sayyid Sadiq markets.
He joined the Peshmerga in 1989 in the Martyr Abu Bakr Bani Banuki Regiment, affiliated with the Surin Forces, in the Darbandikhan Local Committee, within the Fourth Branch of the Kurdistan Democratic Party.
He participated in the Battle of Qajar, the Battle of Shaniri, the Battle of Ahmad Awa, the Battle of Razla, the Battle of Rabaya Bani Shiran at the foot of Mount Surin, the Battle of Mount Sharam, the guerrilla warfare activities in the Sharazur Plain, the guerrilla warfare activities inside the city of Sulaymaniyah, and he was one of the Peshmerga who played a distinguished role by attacking the headquarters of the People’s Army in Sulaymaniyah, which led to their burning.
Mohammed Faraj Shawis was wounded three times during his struggle in the ranks of the Peshmerga. He was shot in 1982 in the village of Bani Banuki during an attack to recapture positions held by the Ba'athist regime at the foot of Mount Surin. In August 1983, he and a group of his Peshmerga comrades were ambushed by mercenaries (Jash) of the Ba'athist regime, and he was shot in the leg. In 1984, he and three of his Peshmerga comrades took refuge in a cave at the foot of Mount Surin after carrying out a guerrilla warfare operation near the village of Bardabil, where they managed to burn a number of Ba'athist military vehicles. However, while they were inside the cave, it came under artillery fire, causing it to collapse. As a result, Mohammed Faraj Shawis was wounded, and one of his Peshmerga comrades, Hama Saeed Jumarsi, was killed.
In 1985, he obtained the rank of member of the Darbandikhan local committee affiliated with the fourth branch of the Kurdistan Democratic Party. On October 20, 1986, when Muhammad Faraj Shawis and a group of his Peshmerga comrades intended to enter the Sharazur plain, they fell into an ambush by the Ba'athist regime soldiers near the outskirts of Dardsuran village, behind the village of Ahmad Awa. Muhammad Faraj Shawis was martyred, while his comrade Anwar Haji Othman was seriously wounded.
