The Seventh Conference of the Kurdistan Students Union - Sulaimaniyah - 1972

The Seventh Conference of the Kurdistan Students Union was held on March 30, 1972, in a free atmosphere in Sulaymaniyah, under the March 11 Agreement between the leadership of the revolution and the Iraqi central government.


Conference convening

Following the Sixth Conference, one of its resolutions was to hold a conference for the Kurdistan Students Union every year. In light of this resolution, and after a year, work began on holding a new conference. From March 30 to April 2, 1972, the Seventh Conference of the Kurdistan Students Union was held in a free atmosphere under the slogan "Knowledge and Struggle for Establishing Autonomy for Iraqi Kurdistan," with the participation of 450 delegates from seven branches in the meeting hall at the University of Sulaimani.

The conference was attended by Tayeh Abdulkarim, a member of the leadership of the Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party and Minister of Oil. The representative of the President of the Republic of Iraq delivered the President's speech. Also present as guests were Ali Abdullah, Governor of Sulaymaniyah. Sami Abdulrahman Minister of Northern Affairs, representing the leader Mustafa BarzaniBianco, representative of the Federation of Student Organizations in Romania, and Engineer Tariq Akri, President of the Kurdish Students Association in Europe.

The first day of the conference was dedicated to reading the participants' speeches and holding the opening ceremony. On the second day, the conference's preparatory committee was appointed, and in the following days, the conference officially commenced its work. Among the most important decisions of the conference were: establishing a General Administrative Council to replace the Executive Committee and opening branches of the council throughout Iraq; increasing the number of literacy centers; transferring the Kurdish department at the College of Arts, University of Baghdad, to a separate college; providing assistance to students from other parts of Kurdistan; strengthening relations with mass student organizations worldwide; and reaffirming the student union's support for the revolution and its leader. The position of deputy was abolished at the conference, and in conclusion, the secretariat office was elected by the delegates as follows:

8- Othman Saleh Khoshnaw - Member of the Secretariat Office

9- Jalal Salim Khoshnaw - Member of the Secretariat Office

10- Hussein Taha Shangali - Member of the Secretariat Office

11- Najmuddin Omar Karim - Member of the Secretariat Office

The alternate members of the Secretariat Office were elected as follows:

1- Khosrow Gul Muhammad

2- Aziz Mahmoud

3- Sirwan Abdullah

4- Najm al-Din Aziz

5- Jabbar Saber

According to the internal regulations, the organizational structure of the Kurdistan Students Union was as follows:

The cell, school or university and institute committees, local committees, branch committees, the administrative body, the secretariat office and the general secretary.
