Vala Farid was a lecturer at the College of Law and Politics at Salahaddin University. In the 2013 elections for the fourth term of the Kurdistan Parliament, she became a member on the Kurdistan Democratic Party list number 110, ranked 73. From 18 February 2019 to 11 July 2019, she was interim speaker of the Kurdistan Parliament, remaining in the post until Rewaz Fayaq succeeded her. On 10 July 2019, she became Minister of the Region's Affairs in the ninth cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government.

At the fourteenth Congress of the Kurdistan Democratic Party in Duhok on 6 November 2022, Congress members elected her to the Central Committee.
