Conditions and conduct of the congress:

As a tradition of reorganization and self-renewal, in April 2001, after the favorable conditions, the decision was made to hold a new congress of the Kurdistan Students Union. Between April 5 and 20, 2001, this committee carried out all the preparations for the congress and the members of the congress were elected from the branches and regional committees. For this purpose, a preparatory committee was formed in the secretariat office under the chairmanship of the secretary of the Kurdistan Students Union1.

After the preparations, the congress began in Erbil from 28 to 31 July 2001 under the slogan “Science - Peace - Renewal” in the presence of President Massoud Barzani. President Barzani delivered a speech, followed by a letter from Jalal Talabani, the first secretary of the PUK, a speech by Dr. Roj Nuri Shawes, the president of the Kurdistan National Assembly, and a speech by Nechirvan Barzani, the prime minister of the Kurdistan government, Minister of Education, Erbil Governor and representative of Kurdistan Students Association. 427 representatives from all organizations of the Kurdistan Students Union participated in this congress. As a result the delegates elected a new executive committee as follows:
