Hoshyar Mahmoud Mohammed Faris joined the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) in 1976 and participated in the Gulan Revolution. He was elected to the KDP Central Committee at the Ninth Congress in 1979, the Tenth Congress in 1989, the Eleventh Congress in 1993, and the Twelfth Congress in 1999, subsequently becoming a member of the Political Bureau.
