Malhama Bamarni Ayar 1987

This epic took place in May 1987 in the Bamarni area of Badinan, when the Peshmerga forces launched a large-scale attack on the camps and positions of the Iraqi army in the region. In this epic, the Peshmerga forces were able to take control of the camp and inflict heavy losses of dead and wounded, in addition to capturing Iraqi army soldiers and seizing a large quantity of weapons and ammunition.

The Bamarni district is located at the foot of Mount Matina, which belongs to the Amadiya district in Duhok Governorate. The region witnessed September Revolution Major battles, most notably the epic of Mount Matina, seem to have played a major role in recording historical pages through the heroism and sacrifices of the Peshmerga forces in order to ensure freedom.

Continuing the struggle, the Peshmerga activities were transferred to the heart of the state in different parts of Kurdistan during the Gulan Revolution, and the methods of guerrilla warfare were able to inflict fatal blows on the military and security institutions of the Baath regime. The epic of Bamarni is one of the attacks launched by the Peshmerga forces on the headquarters and camps of the Iraqi army in the Bamarni area on the night of May 26/27, 1987, and it was carried out by the Peshmerga forces belonging to the local committees in Amadiya, Duhok, Sheikhan and the popular resistance.

Although the Peshmerga attack was delayed by one night due to the mercenaries reneging on their promises of assistance, they subsequently launched a well-executed military operation, storming the Iraqi army headquarters in the area. In a short period, they captured thirteen positions, the Bamarni airfield, a border guard regiment, and the 140th Regiment. The Iraqi army suffered heavy losses, with over 100 soldiers killed and 58 captured. The spoils of war included more than 215 different weapons and 20,150 rounds of ammunition of various types. It appears that the Peshmerga forces also suffered losses, with two Peshmerga fighters, Fawzi Ramadan Rasho and Abdul Sattar Saleh Murad, martyred, and three others wounded.

At the regiment's headquarters, a sum of money amounting to (32) thousand dinars was seized, which the Peshmerga forces distributed to the families of the martyrs. The victory in this epic and the strong blow dealt to the government's military institutions was a remarkable moral victory for the revolution and the Peshmerga forces, and a strong message to the Ba'athist regime that the revolution is continuing, and it can carry out larger and wider activities wherever it wants.
