From the soldiers and the seizure of a large number of weapons and ammunition.
The Bamarni district is located on the slopes of Mount Matina in the Amadiya district of Duhok Governorate, and witnessed fierce battles during September RevolutionOne of the most prominent of these epics is the epic of Mount Matina. It is clear that this epic and many others played a major role in recording the pages of history with the battles and bravery recorded by the Peshmerga forces in order to achieve and guarantee freedom.
The Peshmerga activities infiltrated the state in various parts of Kurdistan during the Gulan Revolution, and guerrilla warfare tactics were able to inflict serious damage on the military and security institutions of the Ba'athist regime. The epic of Bamarni is one of those heroic campaigns of the Kurdistan Peshmerga forces, carried out by the forces of the Amedi, Duhok, and Sheikhan committees and the popular resistance on the night of May 26/27, 1987, against the positions and camps of the Iraqi army in the Bamarni region.
Although the Peshmerga attack was delayed by one night due to the retreat of the mercenaries who had promised them assistance, they subsequently launched a comprehensive military operation, raiding Iraqi army positions in the area. They quickly captured thirteen sites, the Bamarni airfield, and the headquarters of the Border Guard Regiment and the 140th Regiment. The Iraqi army suffered heavy losses, with over 100 soldiers killed and 58 captured. The spoils of war included more than 215 pieces of various weapons and over 20,150 rounds of ammunition. Two Peshmerga fighters, Fawzi Ramadan Rasho Sakrini and Abdul Sattar Saleh Murad, were martyred, and 30 others were wounded.
During this attack, approximately 32,000 dinars were seized, which the Peshmerga and their officials immediately distributed to the families of the martyrs. It appears that the Peshmerga's victory in this battle and the powerful blow dealt to government military institutions served to boost the morale of the revolution and the Peshmerga forces, and sent a strong message to the Ba'athist regime that the revolution continues and is capable of carrying out major operations wherever it chooses.
