Jamal Iskandar Mahmoud was born in 1965 in the village of Bani Banuk at the foot of Mount Surin in the Khurmal district. He completed his intermediate education. On February 1, 1976, his entire family, including women and children, were arrested on the border between Iran and Iraq because he, his father, and all members of his family had joined the Peshmerga forces.September Revolution And to continue the struggle even after the setback September RevolutionThey were all transferred to Nasiriyah prison and remained there until August 3, 1978.
In 1979, he joined the Peshmerga forces within his father's detachment, which was part of his uncle, the martyr Abu Bakr Bani Banuk's regiment, within the Surin forces affiliated with the Darbandikhan local committee of the fourth branch of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, where Mulla Omar Bani Banuk was the commander of the forces at that time.
He participated in the guerrilla warfare activities in the Sharazur Plain and the foothills of Mount Surin, and in the battle of Sharabazhir, the battle of Gardi Sharif in Sharazur, the battle of Halabja, the battle of Nalpariz, the battle of the village of Qaynijah. He was seriously wounded in 1981 in the battle of Sharabazhir after being shot by the Iraqi regime.
On August 3, 1982, he went with a group of his Peshmerga comrades to the district of Said Sadiq to carry out a combat mission within the guerrilla warfare. After their return to the Shanir al-Qasri complex, they fell into an ambush by mercenaries and soldiers of the Ba'athist regime. After violent confrontations between the two sides, Jamal Iskandar Mahmoud was hit by enemy fire and was martyred immediately. His Peshmerga comrade, Ahmed Sana, was also seriously wounded.
