His family sought refuge in eastern Kurdistan in 1945 after the setback of the second Barzan revolution. He was born Azad Barwari In the city of Mahabad in 1946, and in 1947, after the setback of the Democratic Republic of Kurdistan, he returned with his family to southern Kurdistan. He completed the preparatory stage in the city of Erbil. In 1966, he was accepted into the Chemistry Department at the College of Science - University of Mosul. He was expelled by the Iraqi government authorities to the University of Basra in southern Iraq because of his political activities. He obtained a bachelor’s degree from the University of Basra in 1972. In 2009, he served as Deputy Prime Minister in the sixth cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government. He is fluent in Kurdish, Arabic, Persian, English, and German.

linked Azad Barwari He joined the Kurdistan Students Union in 1961 and the Kurdistan Democratic Party in 1964. In 1968, he was arrested and imprisoned in Ramadi prison in western Iraq. He was released from prison in 1970 following the March 11 Agreement between the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Iraqi government, and then joined the Peshmerga forces. In 1976, he was elected at the Berlin Conference as a member of the Central Committee of the Provisional Leadership of the Kurdistan Democratic Party. In 1977, he participated in the expanded Bidwali meeting of the Provisional Leadership of the Kurdistan Democratic Party with the aim of reorganizing and activating the Peshmerga forces. In 1979, he was a member of the committee for reorganizing the Provisional Leadership of the Kurdistan Democratic Party among the refugees of South Kurdistan in Iran.
He was elected as a member of the Central Committee of the Kurdistan Democratic Party at the Ninth Conference in 1979 and as an alternate member of the Central Committee at the Tenth Conference in 1989. He was elected at the Eleventh Conference in 1993, and at the Twelfth Conference in 1999 as a member of the Central Committee and then as a member of the Political Bureau of the Party. At the Thirteenth Conference in 2010, he was again elected as a member of the Leadership Council and then as a member of the Political Bureau of the Kurdistan Democratic Party. At the Fourteenth Conference in 2022, he was elected as a member of the Central Committee, and at the first meeting of the Leadership Committee, he was elected as a member of the Political Bureau of the Kurdistan Democratic Party.
He held several positions and responsibilities during his work within the Kurdistan Democratic Party, including: Head of the Third and Fourth Branch Committees in 1980, Head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party's Relations Office in Syria in 1981, Head of the Party's Local and National Relations in 1993, Active Member of the Political Bureau and Head of the Central Organizations Office in 1996, Head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party's Central Media Office in 2001, and so on.
In 2009, he served as Deputy Prime Minister in the sixth cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government.
He was awarded the Immortal Barzani Medal in 2010 by the President Masoud Barzani In recognition of his outstanding services in the September and Gulan revolutions, and the stages of the South Kurdistan uprising and sovereignty.
