The Barzan Tribes and Their Role in Iraq

This book is originally a doctoral thesis and consists of an introduction, four chapters, and an appendix.

Its first chapter is about the Barzan tribes until 1915 and contains four sections, which discuss the origin of the name Barzan, the geographical location and population, the role of the Naqshbandi sheikhs in uniting the Barzan tribes, the tribes of the Sheikh of Barzan and the social Situation, and the defense of the Barzan tribes under the leadership of Sheikh Abdulsalam Barzani against the Ottoman authorities until 1915.

The second chapter of the book discusses the political and social Situation of the Barzan tribes between the years (1915-1931) and consists of three sections that discuss political developments and their impact on the Barzan tribes between the years (1915-1921), political developments in Iraq and their impact on the Barzan tribes between the years (1921-1927), and the position of Britain and Iraq regarding the movements of the Barzan tribes between the years (1927-1931).

The third chapter is about the movements of the Barzan tribes under the leadership of Sheikh Ahmed Barzani between the years (1931-1935), and contains three sections that discuss the causes of the armed movement of the Barzan tribes and the position of the Kurdish tribes, the Iraqi government, the British authorities, and the surrounding Country between the years (1931-1935), the position of the Iraqi press and the Iraqi Chamber of Deputies regarding the movement of the Barzan tribes under the leadership of Sheikh Ahmed Barzani between the years (1931-1935), and the return of administrative authority in the Barzan region between the years (1933-1935).

The fourth chapter of this book discusses the situation of the Barzan tribes between the years (1935-1958) and consists of three sections: the Situation of the Barzan region and the tribes until 1943, the movement of Mulla Mustafa Barzani and the role of the Barzan tribes between the years (1943-1945), and the situation of the Barzanis between the years (1945-1947).
