Following the Kurdistan Democratic Party's (KDP) third congress on December 26, 1953, a decision was made to establish mass organizations. Consequently, on February 18, 1953, the Kurdistan Students Union held its inaugural congress in secret in Baghdad.

The fifth congress of the Kurdistan Students Union was held on July 13-15, 1967 in Shwan area of Kirkuk province.

The Fourth Congress of the Kurdistan Students Union convened on February 14, 1964, in the village of Chokhmakh, located near Sulaimani. This significant event followed the revolutionary leadership's successful negotiations with the government, culminating in the announcement of a peace treaty on February 10, 1964.

In March 1962, the first conference of the Kurdistan Students Union (KSU) was held secretly in Baghdad due to regional political developments and changes in the internal structure of the organization.

The fourteenth Congress of the Kurdistan Students Union (KSU) was held on November 3, 2012 in Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region.

On November 3, 2022, the 14th Congress began its work in Duhok with the presence of 1022 representatives out of 1065 representatives who were eligible to participate in the congress from all the Party’s organizations under the slogan (Freedom, Democracy and Justice).

On December 14, 1914, after the execution of Sheikh Abdul Salam Barzani by the Ottoman Empire, Sheikh Ahmed Barzani replaced his elder brother at the age of 18 and became a religious and social leader in the Barzan region.

Martyr Faraj Hassan Mohammed was a Peshmerga of both the Aylul Revolution and the Gulan Revolution. During his political career, he became a member of the regional committee. He was martyred in 1987 by a traitor with two comrades.

Martyr Farooq Hama Ali was a Peshmerga of the Kurdistan uprising. He was seriously wounded in the liberation of Kirkuk in 1991 and was martyred in Sulaimani hospital.

Faizo Salim Khan, commander and Peshmerga of the September and Gulan revolutions, joined the Kurdish Peshmerga forces at the beginning of the September revolution, participated in many battles.

Fazel Mutni Alikhan, more commonly known as Fazel Mirani, is a lawyer and politician who joined the ranks of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (PDK) in 1966. Furthermore, he was a delegate to the 7th (1966) and 8th (1970) congresses and was elected as a member of the Central Committee and then the Political Bureau at the 9th (1979), 10th (1989), 11th (1993), and 12th (1999) congresses.

Franso Toma Kanun, also known as Franso Hariri, a teacher, and politician, joined the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) in 1963. In 1969, he became the head of the Balak Regional Committee of the Second Branch Committee. In 1979, he became a reserve member of the Central Committee of the Ninth Congress.
