Kamal Kirkuki

Mohammed Qadir Abdullah, also known as Dr. Kamal Kirkuk and Nuri, enlisted in the Kurdistan Students Union in 1967 and the Kurdistan Peshmerga Forces in 1968. Moreover, in the 9th Congress (1979) he was a reserve member of the Central Committee and in the 10th (1989), 11th (1993) and 12th (1999) congresses, he was elected as a member of the central committee of the Kurdistan Democratic Party.

Moreover, in the 9th Congress (1979) he was a reserve member of the Central Committee and in the 10th (1989), 11th (1993) and 12th (1999) congresses, he was elected as a member of the central committee of the Kurdistan Democratic Party.  Furthermore, in 2010, he was re-elected as a member of the leadership council of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) at the 13th congress and as a member of the political bureau at the inaugural meeting of the leadership council. Then, he was appointed to the Kurdistan Regional Government's first cabinet in 1992 and served as the deputy minister of humanitarian aid. After that, he was appointed as the vice-president of the Kurdistan National Assembly, and he was elected as the president of the assembly in 2009. Also, Kamal Kirkuki is the bearer of the immortal Bazani medal. He is fluent in Kurdish, Arabic, English and Farsi. 


Biography

  Kamal Kirkuk was born in 1954 in Kirkuk. In 1973, he studied at Tehran Medical University; however, following the Aylul Revolution, he left school in 1975. Then, in 2013, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the American University of Science and Technology in Lebanon. After that, he was appointed to the Kurdistan Regional Government's first cabinet in 1992 and served as the deputy minister of humanitarian aid. Furthermore, he was appointed as the vice-president of the Kurdistan National Assembly, and he was elected as the president of the assembly in 2009. He is fluent in Kurdish, Arabic, English and Farsi. 


Service Record

Kamal Kirkuki joined the Kurdistan Students Union in 1967 and the Kurdistan Peshmerga Forces in 1968. Furthermore, he was chosen by Comrade Massoud Barzani in 1975 to help with the Gulan Revolution preparations. Then in 1976, he became a member of the interim leadership of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) at the Berlin Conference. In the same year, he became the commander of the battle of Sharsten (1975) in the city of Sulaimani against the army of Iraq. Unfortunately, he was wounded in the battle.

Additionally, in the 9th Congress (1979) he was a reserve member of the Central Committee and in the 10th (1989), 11th (1993) and 12th (1999) congresses, he was elected as a member of the central committee of the Kurdistan Democratic Party.  Moreover, he was re-elected in 2022 as a member of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) Central Committee at the fourth congress, and he was elected as a member of the KDP Political Bureau at the inaugural meeting of the leadership committee. He also became the head of the Kirkuk Provincial Organization Bureau. Furthermore, he supervised KDP operations in the US, Canada, France, Germany, Austria. 

As he rose through the ranks of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), he was given a number of responsibilities, including:

  1. Deputy Head of Branch 2 Committee (1989).

  2. Head of Branch 1 Committee (1989).

  3. Head of Public and Professional Bureau (1992).

  4. Head of the Seventh Branch Committee of the United States and Canada (1998).

  5. Head of the Sixth Branch Committee of Europe (1999).

  6. Head of Relations Bureau (2013).

  7. Chairman of Kirkuk-Garmyan Leadership Council (2018).

In 1991, he participated in the Kurdistan Uprising in Duhok province as a leader and commander, and he also defended the Zakho front during the revolution. Then, in 2003, he was in charge of the operation room for the liberation of Kirkuk, and he became the representative of President Massoud Barzani with the allies in Kirkuk.

He received the immortal Barzani medal from President Massoud Barzani in 2010 for his efforts during the Aylul, Gulan, Southern Kurdistan Uprising, and the period of sovereignty. 

He was wounded in one of the battles in Kirkuk in 2014 when he was given command of the western front against ISIS.
