Jamal Iskandar Mahmoud was born in 1965 in Bani village, located in the Suren Mountain of the Khurmal district. His education extended until secondary school, as his family, deeply involved in the Peshmerga movement during and after the September Revolution, remained unwavering in their resistance efforts along the Iran-Iraq border. The Iraqi regime arrested all the children and women of his family on February 1, 1976, detaining them in Nasiriyah prison until March 3, 1976.
In 1979, Jamal joined his father's Iskandar Mahmoudi detachment as a Peshmerga He was a member of his uncle Martyr Abubakr Bani Banok's battalion and was affiliated with the Suren force of the Darbandikhan area committee within the fourth branch of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP). At that time, Mullah Omar Bani Banok commanded the force.
Jamal actively participated in various revolutionary activities, including those in the Sharazoor plain, the hills of Mount Suren, the battles of Sharbazher and Sharif Hill of Sharazoor, the battle of Halabja, the battle of Nalparez, and the battle of Qaineja village of Sharazoor. In 1981, he sustained a severe gunshot wound during the battle of Sharbazher against the Iraqi regime.
On August 3, 1982, Jamal and a group of comrades ventured into the Said Sadiq district to carry out paramilitary activities. Upon their return from the forced residence of Shaneri, they were unexpectedly ambushed by Jash and soldiers loyal to the Ba'ath regime. Following a confrontation with the enemy, Jamal Iskandar Mahmoud was fatally shot, while another comrade, Ahmad Sana, suffered serious injuries.
