The existence of partisan detachments within the ranks of the liberation movement is a revolutionary necessity. In international circles, they are called special forces or strike forces. These forces consist of elite, active, and agile members. They play an important role in harassing the enemy because they do not have fixed locations but are mobile. Their members are elite, and in carrying out activities, they adapt themselves in clothing and appearance according to the situation and the nature of the region so that they can successfully achieve the goal they have in their plan.
In the summer of 1979, a Peshmerga detachment commanded by Mahmoud Shekho Dolamari discussed a partisan activity to identify a location to strike the ranks of the Iraqi Army. To carry out this activity, they planned to shell the Sidakan military base, with the aim of continuing the revolution's activities, causing damage to the regime's military interests, and instilling fear and terror in their ranks. Regarding how the activity was carried out, Gulan Revolution Peshmerga Abdulrahman Haji, a participant in the activity, recounted to us and said: Our detachment consisted of six Peshmerga commanded by Mahmoud Shekho. We prepared a 57mm cannon and a number of shells, loaded them onto a truck, hit the road, and climbed the heights until we reached the top near the town of Sidakan.
After we made the necessary preparations for setting up the cannon and determining the point of impact and striking the base, it was decided that the first moment of firing the cannon would be in the evening before sunset. When suddenly several artillery shells fell on the base like spring hail, it became a rumble and roar, and the dust and smoke of the shelling mixed, in such a way that the inside of the base was thrown into chaos and they did not know from which direction the shelling was coming. All that remained for them was to shell the surrounding area, especially as they cast suspicion on a high mountain north of Sidakan called Sari Spindar. They set it on fire with their cannons, which was several kilometers away from us. We, having implemented the plan of the activity and hit our target, packed our goods and equipment and left the location.
There is no doubt that all the Peshmerga activities carried out anywhere against the military and security institutions of the Ba'ath regime brought about a kind of chaos and confusion. Soldiers, officers, and security personnel were subjected to fear and anxiety because they were not sure of their own lives and safety.
