After being imprisoned for nine months, he was sent to the Northern Organization in Kirkuk, where he was sentenced to death. In order to carry out the decision of the Iraqi Revolutionary Court, Asad was transferred to Najaf prison, but when the popular uprising in Najaf began and the security situation in the city deteriorated, Asad Asad Wasin Ghafur looked for an exit and was able to escape from prison, and he participated with his Peshmerga comrades in the popular uprising of the people of Kurdistan.
He was wounded by a gunshot in his leg on March 7, 1991, during the seizure of the Bayanjan police station. After receiving treatment, he decided to continue the struggle, where he participated in the liberation of the Raparin region.
On March 8, 1991, during the liberation of the city of Sulaymaniyah, he fell into an ambush by the Ba'athist regime's soldiers. Initially, he was seriously wounded by shrapnel from a hand grenade at the gate of the Security Directorate (Amna Suraka), but he refused to retreat and continued his attack into the building. However, he was soon subjected to a hail of bullets and was martyred on the spot due to his serious injury, and his body was completely mutilated.
