Martyr Sheikh Hamadamin Osman, known as (Aref Shekha), was born in 1925 in the village of Rosti, part of the Galala sub-district of the Choman district, Erbil Governorate. He was a villager and engaged in farming. He studied up to the intermediate level in the village of Rosti, had full proficiency in Arabic and Persian, was married, and had four sons and two daughters.
Aref Shekha joined the Peshmerga forces of the September Revolution in 1963 and became a Peshmerga in the artillery department of the Balak Force of the Kurdistan Democratic Party. During the 1950s, due to mandatory military service, he became a soldier in the then-Iraqi regime and participated in several training courses for long-range weapons, developing solid expertise. Therefore, upon becoming a Peshmerga, he was made an operator of (25mm, 122mm field, and 155mm) artillery. He was also a very good assistant to the General Artillery Department of the revolution in several important and necessary matters, and he participated as an instructor in two Peshmerga training courses for long-range weapons, playing a high-level role; these courses were the Rawanduz Garrison course and the Galala course.
Aref Shekha had an active participation in the epics of the Diana Plain in general and the battles of Korak, Sartiz, Rawanduz Garrison, Gali Ali Bag, Korak, Barsirin, and Bekhal. In his Peshmerga life, he was severely wounded twice, both times due to bombing by the then-Iraqi regime's aircraft: in 1969 in the Battle of Diana Plain and in 1974 in the village of Barsirin. He was sent by the revolution's leadership to the country of Iran for treatment and received treatment for two months in a hospital in the city of Mahabad.
In 1977, he rejoined the Peshmerga forces of the Gulan Revolution and formed a force from the villages of the region and the Diana Plain, and began partisan activities in the Balak region. Therefore, a group of Jash and traitors against the people plotted to eliminate Aref Shekha.
On March 21, 1977, through an organized plan by the opponents of the Party, to meet with those Peshmerga who were joining the revolution, Aref Shekha went to Qurna and Pusht Ashan at the foot of Mount Qandil in the direction of Qaladiza town. As soon as Aref Shekha arrived, he was surrounded by the opponents of the Party, subjected to gunfire, and Aref Shekha was martyred.
