The Battle of Sharsten took place on December 26, 1976, in the village of Sharsten in northwestern Sulaimani province, between the Peshmerga forces of the Second Region under the interim leadership of the Kurdistan Democratic Party and two battalions of the regime army. It concluded with the retreat of the Peshmerga forces from Sharsten village.

Since mid-December 1964, the Iraqi government had been fabricating excuses to create unrest in Kurdistan, employing measures such as arresting and torturing individuals in towns and cities under the pretext of maintaining order amidst alleged chaos. Simultaneously, there was noticeable movement of military forces in the region, further escalating tensions.

Following the February 8, 1963 coup, the Ba'athists unveiled their hostile intentions toward the Kurdish people by establishing the National Guard, an infamous armed organization that became one of the most notorious entities in Iraq's history.

From December 5 to 6, 1961, the Peshmerga secured a significant victory in the Battle of Zawita, inflicting substantial damage on the army and Jashes. This triumph enabled them to gain control of Sarsang village and the Zawita Valley.

Among the series of battles during the Aylul Revolution, the Battle of Geli Zakho stands out as one of the most significant engagements, characterized by exceptional coordination between party organizations embedded within the ranks of the Iraqi army and the timely transmission of critical intelligence to the Peshmerga commanders. This effective collaboration enabled the Peshmerga forces to strategically anticipate and counter the Iraqi army's movements.

The Battle of Bngird occurred on October 11, 1976, in the heart of Bngird district, located in northwestern Sulaimani province. This confrontation unfolded between the Peshmerga forces of the second region under the interim leadership of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (PDK) and the district’s police forces. The Peshmerga forces managed to temporarily seize control of the district.

The Battle of Belmbir occurred on May 25, 1977, in the village of Belmbir, located in the Barwari Balla region north of Duhok province. This clash between the Peshmerga forces of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (PDK) and the regime’s army resulted in heavy casualties on both sides. Despite the intensity of the fighting, the battle concluded with the retreat of the regime’s army.

After the collapse of the republic, Barzani's forces began a new phase of fighting with Iranian army forces and pro-government tribes as they retreated to Iraqi territory.

One of the battles that followed the defeat of the Kurdistan Republic and the retreat of the Barzanis to the border points between Iran and Iraq was the Battle of Singan.

The battle took place in August 1984 when the Iraqi army and mercenaries attacked the Mangesh region to suppress the voice of the revolution in the region, but the Peshmerga forces resisted them and caused heavy damage to them the army’s casualties were a number of fighters killed and wounded.

On October 20, 1980, a significant battle occurred on the road between Sayed Sadiq and Penjwen. A confrontation between a Peshmerga force and the Iraqi army led to intense fighting, resulting in a notable victory for the Peshmerga and heavy casualties for the Iraqi army.

In the Battle of Biara, the Peshmerga Forces began fighting and operating in the early months of 1982 in the Biara and Shram areas. They did this by launching a massive attack on the army and government forces' bases, which allowed them to seize control of the area and cause severe damage to the Iraqi army and its possessions.
