he battle took place in May 1987 in the Bamarni area of Badinan region. It was when the Peshmerga embarked a major attack on the Iraqi army bases in the area. The Peshmerga forces captured their military base and caused severe damage to the Iraqi army. They killed and took the soldiers of the Iraqi army a hostage, and they took over a large number of weapons and ammunition.

Bamarne district is located on the slopes of Mount Matina in Amedi of Duhok province. (1) In the Aylul Revolution, the mountain has seen its fair share of battles, and one of the battles was the Battle of Mount Matina. Obviously, this battle and many others have played an important role in coloring the pages of history with the battles and bravery recorded by the hands of the Peshmerga forces to guarantee freedom (2).

The continuation of the battles made the activities slide its way into the different parts of Kurdistan during the Gullan Revolution. And they were able to inflict severe and deadly damage on the Ba’ath military and security institutions. Bamarni battle is one of the campaigns that the Peshmerga embarked against the Iraqi army bases in Bamarni area on the night of 26/27 May 1987 on Amedi, Duhok, Sheikhan and National Defense (3).

Although the Peshmerga attack was delayed overnight due to the retreat of the mercenaries who had promised their aid, later, with a comprehensive strong military plan, the Iraqi army headquarters in the region were raided, and in a short time, they took control of thirteen positions, Bamarni airport, the headquarters of the border guard battalion and the 140th battalion. The Iraqi army suffered heavy casualties, as more than 100 soldiers were killed and 58 others were taken as hostage. The achievements of this battle included more than two hundred and fifteen pieces of various weapons and more than (20150) various bullets. However, the Peshmarga suffered their loss too as two Peshmergas named (Fawzi Ramazan Rasho Skrini and Abdulsatar Saleh Murad) were martyred and 30 others were wounded.

At the attack on Fawj, 32,000 dinars were seized from the regiment headquarters. Without delay, Peshmergas and officials donated the money to the families of the martyrs. The victory of this battle and the intense attack on the government military institutions was a great morale for the revolution and the Peshmerga forces. It was also a strong message to the Ba'ath regime to let them know the revolution continued, and that the revolution was capable of carrying out major operations wherever it wanted.
