Fazel Mirani

Fazel Mutni Alikhan, more commonly known as Fazel Mirani, is a lawyer and politician who joined the ranks of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (PDK) in 1966. Furthermore, he was a delegate to the 7th (1966) and 8th (1970) congresses and was elected as a member of the Central Committee and then the Political Bureau at the 9th (1979), 10th (1989), 11th (1993), and 12th (1999) congresses.

Furthermore, he was a delegate to the 7th (1966) and 8th (1970) congresses and was elected as a member of the Central Committee and then the Political Bureau at the 9th (1979), 10th (1989), 11th (1993), and 12th (1999) congresses. After that, at the inaugural meeting of the leadership council in 2010, he was re-elected as a member of the leadership council and secretary of the political bureau of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP). Moreover, he was the Minister of Interior in the third and fourth cabinets. In 1997, he was appointed deputy prime minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in the third cabinet. He is also the bearer of the Immortal Barzani Medal. He is fluent in Kurdish, Arabic, English, Turkish and Farsi. 


Biography

Fazel Mirani was born in 1948 in Mosul. In 2000, he received a bachelor's degree in law from the College of Maf, Salahaddin University, Erbil.  Moreover, he was the Minister of Interior in the third and fourth cabinets. Then in 1997, he was appointed deputy prime minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in the third cabinet. Also, he is fluent in Kurdish, Arabic, English, Turkish and Farsi. 


Service Record

Fazel Mirani joined the ranks of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (PDK) in 1966. Furthermore, he was a delegate to the 7th (1966) and 8th (1970) congresses and was elected as a member of the Central Committee and then the Political Bureau at the 9th (1979), 10th (1989), 11th (1993), and 12th (1999) congresses. After that, at the inaugural meeting of the leadership council in 2010, he was re-elected as a member of the leadership council and secretary of the political bureau of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP). Furthermore, he was re-elected as a member of the Central Committee in 2022, and he was elected as the Secretary of the Kurdistan Democratic Party's (KDP) Political Bureau at the inaugural meeting of the Leadership Committee.

Throughout his tenure in the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), he was assigned a variety of jobs and responsibilities such as:

  1. Head of Akre Regional Committee of Branch One Committee (1979).

  2. Administrator of Branch One Committee (1970).

  3. Administrator of the Third Branch Committee (1973). 

  4. Member of the Organizational Bureau (1975). 

  5. Administrator of the Seventh Branch committee of United States of America (1977).

  6. Head of Organization Bureau (1979).

  7. Head of Akre Regional Committee of Branch One Committee (1979).

  8. Head of Branch 1 Committee (1991). 

  9.  Secretary of Political Bureau (2004).

He fled to Iran as a refugee in 1975, following the fall of the Aylul Revolution. Then comrade Massoud Barzani called him the same year to plan for the Gulan Revolution. After that, he fled to the United States as a refugee in 1977. Furthermore, in 1988, he was elected as a member of the Executive Bureau of the Kurdistan Front and in the same year, he took part in the Dastan of Khawkurk against the Iraqi army.  Moreover, in 1991, he led the Kurdistan Uprising in Badinan and was the commander of the Kurdistan Front in Mosul and Duhok.

Fazel Mirani was also the Minister of Interior in the third and fourth cabinets. Then in 1997, he was appointed deputy prime minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in the third cabinet.

President Massoud Barzani awarded him the immortal Barzani Medal in 2010 for his effort and resistance during the Aylul Revolution, Gulan Revolution, Southern Kurdistan Uprising, and sovereignty period.
