In September 1987, in the Kani Masi area of the Badinan region, a major battle took place between the Peshmerga Forces and the Iraqi army, known as the Kani Masi Epic. The Peshmerga forces attacked a number of Iraqi army military bases and headquarters. After a fierce and bloody battle, the Peshmerga were able to take control of all the military points and inflict heavy losses on the Iraqi army's military forces in terms of killed, wounded, and captured.
