The Battle of Sharazur was another battle of the Peshmerga jointly with the forces of the (JNDF) front, recorded between Said Sadiq, Halabja, Zarayan, and Darbandikhan, which lasted for three days. The (JNDF) front was established on 28 November 1980 between Kurdish parties such as the Kurdistan Democratic Party, the Kurdistan Socialist Party, the Iraqi Communist Party, the Kurdistan Democratic People's Party, and the Kurdish Socialist Party (PASOK). Its name is an abbreviation for the Joint National Democratic Front, and the purpose of establishing this front was for the Kurdish parties to confront the Ba'ath regime under the umbrella of one front.
The beginning of the Battle of Sharazur goes back to the Peshmerga forces who went from the village of Shiremere towards Gelek, Gire Qazi, and Tepe Zerine for patrols and to strike the military institutions of the Ba'ath. They stayed for one day in the villages of Tepesarqole, Kishyari, Qajir, Gire Sharif, and Dolash in the Sharazur region. On the same day, a large force of the army and mercenaries, with the support of tanks, artillery, and aircraft, attacked the Peshmerga Forces in the villages of Tepesarqole, Kishyari, and Chem Zelme. The Peshmerga Forces, led by Muhammad Haji Mahmud, Nadir Hawrami, and Azad Qaradaghi, who were the officials of the (JNDF) front in that area, started at 10.00 o'clock and continued until 16.00 o'clock. In that battle, dozens of soldiers and mercenaries of the Ba'ath regime were killed. Among the Peshmerga Forces, there were four martyrs named Muhammad Qute, Barzani Salih, Muhammad Sarawi, and Sirwan Saedun Kirkuki, along with a citizen named Gharib from the village of Tepesarqole. After the fighting ended, the government forces returned to the military base of Said Sadiq.
