On the night of March 21, 1947, which was the first day of the Newroz holiday of 1326 (Solar Hijri), a number of Barzani Peshmerga forces, under the command of Suleiman Beg Dargalai and Zarar Suleiman Beg Dargalai and Ali Agha Khirzoki, Malko Zero, Mullah Shin, and a number of other Barzani Peshmerga commanders such as Mullah Ali Zhazhoki and Hasoy Babani, decided to attack the Iranian army base in Qarne. For this purpose, they set off from several directions towards the designated target. Initially, the riders of the Sharwiran tribe who were with the Iranian army abandoned the Kunamaran mountain and Qarne without fighting and fled towards Balaghchi. As a result, the Kunamaran mountain, which is located between the Khani and Sofian road and was a threat to the Naghadeh road, where the Iranian army command center was located at that time, fell into the hands of the Barzanis.
Zarar Beg Dargalai's force, when they reached the tea house of Qarne and saw a number of Jash, soldiers, and Iranian officers sitting there, the Peshmerga attacked that tea house with grenades, killing a number of those soldiers and officers and taking a number of them as prisoners. In a short time, they took control of the Qarne military base, and all the equipment of the army base and forty-one mules fell into the hands of the Peshmerga. They were also able to load the army's rations, which were in the Qarne mosque, onto the mules and three buffalo carts and send them towards Aliawa. They also became aware that 7 army soldiers had hidden themselves in the house of the Mukhtar of Qarne, so the Peshmerga went and took those soldiers as prisoners as well. These gains of Zarar Beg Dargalai's force were part of the deadly blow that Suleiman Beg Dargalai dealt to the Iranian army on the main road between Naghadeh and Khani, as a result of which fifty soldiers were killed and forty others were taken prisoner and sent to Oshnavieh.
As a result of that battle, and one day after that event, the Iranian army once again, by sending support forces to the area, which consisted of the 22nd Kermanshah Regiment under the command of Colonel Ghaffari and with the support of two tanks and one 75mm cannon, entered the city of Naghadeh and set off on a counter-attack to recapture the Kunamaran mountain, free the main road, and deliver supplies to the Sofian barracks. In a fierce battle that took place between the Barzanis and the Iranian army, the Iranians were once again able to take control of the Kunamaran mountain. This victory was so important for the Iranians that the commander of the Kunamaran recapture operation, whose name was Colonel Biglari, was promoted one rank and became a Brigadier General. Although the Iranian army, after carrying out a large-scale operation, was able to recapture Kunamaran, the impact of that attack which had been carried out by the Barzanis on Kunamaran and Qarne was such that for a while all Iranian military movements were stopped, and in terms of food and morale, the Peshmerga were also boosted.
