In the series of battles of the great Aylul Revolution between the Kurdistan Peshmerga forces and the Iraqi Army, a major battle broke out in the Piramagrun region on April 28, 1965, and continued until May 12 of the same year. These battles were in the Piramagrun region belonging to Sulaymaniyah Governorate between the Iraqi Army led by Brigadier General Zaki Hussein Hilmi, Commander of the Iraqi Army, and Tariq Ahmed, Commander of the Peshmerga forces, and these battles continued for a long time.
PreparationsTo attack the positions of the Peshmerga forces, the Iraqi government prepared two brigades of its army with nearly three thousand Kurdish mercenary and hired gunmen and two thousand Arabs from the tribes and sycophants to attack the Peshmerga forces in the Piramagrun regions, especially with the aim of occupying the headquarters of the Rizgari forces in the village of Ziwa. This was the first phase of the Iraqi Army's plan, and in the second phase, there was to be an ascent towards the Sarakhiya regions in the Jafayati region.
Start of the counter-attack by the PeshmergaAfter the start of the attack towards the Peshmerga positions, the Iraqi Army initially succeeded in achieving its goals in some places, and was able to occupy the village of Ziwa and part of the positions of the Peshmerga forces in the Piramagrun region and remove them from the control of the Peshmerga forces. However, this success achieved by the army did not last long; rather, a counter-attack began by the Peshmerga, and they were able to regain all the areas they had lost from the Iraqi Army and return them once again under the control of the Peshmerga forces.
The Iraqi Army suffered heavy losses in these battles, and in addition to its inability to achieve its goal, this defeat caused this to be the last time it was able to attack the region.
