It is clear that the hostile policy of the Iraq government towards Kurdistan was reflected in the behavior of the military forces and mercenaries who constantly carried out military campaigns to exterminate the Kurd and destroy and burn the villages of Kurdistan([1]) but every time the military campaigns were repelled by the Peshmerga forces. For this very reason, the Activity of the Peshmerga in the Badinan region in the year 1987 had entered a broad phase, having harassed the government to such an extent that they were constantly in the trenches of war and clashes with the Peshmerga. On the morning of 5 May 1987, a Peshmerga force consisting of Peshmerga from the Amedi District Committee, three organizations affiliated with the Gulan Revolution District Committee, two organizations affiliated with Branch One, and a national force led by Commander Dr. Roj Nuri Shawis and Colonel Ali and Sayid Salih, launched a large and extensive attack on the headquarters of the Light Battalion (111), whose advisor was Sheikh Nuri Barzinji, in the sub-district of Dereluk, part of Amedi District([2]), after a fierce and intense bloody battle, the battalion headquarters and (81) surrounding positions of the battalion and the area were seized by the Peshmerga forces([3]).
In this Peshmerga Activity, the government forces suffered heavy human losses, which consisted of (38) killed and more than (40) captives who fell into the hands of the Peshmerga. Among the captives were First Lieutenant Abdulhamid Khattab Abdullah, the battalion Commander, three Military personnel, one Officer deputy (Naib Dabit), and thirty mercenaries (Jash). (16) other mercenaries also surrendered themselves to the Peshmerga forces. In addition to that, the material losses of the government forces consisted of the burning of an armored vehicle and (9) military vehicles and (200) pieces of weapons of the Kalashnikov, Salib, and (R. P. G) types, and one 82 mm mortar, one 5.14 mm, a Grenov, (14) wireless sets, and a large number of bullets, artillery shells, and shells of (R. P. G) became the spoils of the Peshmerga([4]).
After the end of the Peshmerga attack at one o'clock in the afternoon of the same day, Iraq warplanes bombed the area and the bases and headquarters of the Peshmerga. During the bombing by the Iraq plane, the Peshmerga air defense force was able to shoot down a helicopter-type aircraft with a SAM-7 missile. The seven Military personnel inside the aircraft fell into the hands of the Peshmerga forces; one of them was a pilot Colonel named Hamid Saeed and a pilot First Lieutenant Nizar Adnan. This had a great role and impact on raising the morale of the Peshmerga on the battle fronts. In that attack, the Peshmerga's losses consisted of the Martyrdom of one Peshmerga and the wounding of (3) other Peshmerga.
It is worth mentioning that in that same attack, by Artillery of the Revolution, the bases, barracks, and headquarters of the army and government forces were shelled. As indicated, one day after the Peshmerga attack on the Iraq forces, i.e., 6 May 1987, President Masoud Barzani, the leader of the revolution, contacted the Peshmerga officials via wireless on Gara Mountain to congratulate the Peshmerga forces for the victory they recorded in that attack([5]).
