The Bamerne sub-district is located at the foot of the Metina mountain, affiliated with the Amedi district in the Duhok governorate. In Aylul Revolution, it witnessed a major battle, the most prominent of which is the Metina Mountain epic. Clearly, this epic and many others have played a major role in shaping the pages of history with those battles and heroism recorded by the Peshmerga force to ensure freedom.

The continuity of the struggle pushed the activities of the Peshmerga into the heart of the state in various regions of Kurdistan during the Gulan Revolution. Through guerrilla tactics, they were able to deal fatal blows to the military and security institutions of the Ba'ath government. The Bamerne epic is one of those campaigns that the Peshmerga carried out against the bases and military camps of the Iraqi Army in the Bamerne area on the night of 26 to 27 of May 1987, carried out by the Peshmerga force of the Amedi, Duhok, and Sheikhan branch committees and the local defense.

Although the Peshmerga attack was delayed by one night due to the withdrawal of the mercenaries who had promised to help, later, with a solid military plan, they stormed the military headquarters of the Iraqi Army in the region. In a short time, they were able to seize thirteen positions, the Bamerne airfield, and the headquarters of the Border Guard Regiment and the 140 Regiment. A major blow was dealt to the Iraqi Army soldiers, which consisted of the killing of more than one hundred soldiers and the capture of 58 others. The gains of this epic were more than two hundred and fifteen pieces of various weapons and more than 20150 rounds of various ammunition. Clearly, the Peshmerga force was not without losses, as two Peshmerga were martyred, named Fawzi Ramazan Rasho Skrini and Abdulstar Salih Murad, and thirty other Peshmerga were wounded.

In that attack, an amount of 32 thousand dinars was seized at the regiment headquarters. Immediately, the Peshmerga and officials took the money and gave it as a gift to the families of the martyrs. Clearly, the success of this epic and the strong strike against the government's military institutions was a great morale boost for the revolution and the Peshmerga force, and a strong message to the Ba'ath regime that the revolution is continuing and is capable of carrying out major activities wherever it intends.
